It's that time of year when I address the issues around plowing the city streets. To me this has always been one of the annual problems that brings a lot of complaints. I can understand that with the knowledge that snow plowing needs to be done within a certain time frame. The City will never get an A+ in snow removal but we should be more prepared and have automatic protocol in place to employ the amount of resources we need. This year the city was prepared for the main arterial streets but we could have done a better job in getting to the residential side streets sooner. That means having private contractors with plows available to assist in our efforts in a timely manner. Having private contractors also means shelling out more money for what might be a temporary issue.

I have been listening to the different perspectives on this matter and passing along some of the problem areas to our City Manager and Public Works Director. I do care about your opinions and I don't want to come across like I'm always defending the city no matter what. We work for you (the people) and we need to be a prepared and ready to get the job done. I can assure that there were many conversations that may lead to updating our current policy in hopes that we continue to improve the job we do.
