Toronto FC capped the most successful season in the 22-year history of Major League Soccer with a convincing home win over the Seattle Sounders, 2-0 capturing their first MLS Cup in club history and bringing the first pro sports championship to the city since the 1992 World Series champion Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball.

Jozy Altidore broke a nil-nil tie in the 67th minute with a somewhat controversial goal where some speculated that he may have been offside. Toronto iced the match in stoppage time with a victory-sealing goal to avenge their heartbreaking loss to the same Sounders squad in 2016.
