It looks like Jennifer Nettles isn’t the only Sugarland member who wants to spend time coaching young talent. While Nettles is preparing to team up with country hopeful on the ABC reality series ‘Duets’ this summer, her band member Kristian Bush recently started shaping the career of Alana Springsteen, a talented 11-year-old girl who is an aspiring singer.

Bush has been working with the girl and her family to help her score a record deal in Nashville, Tenn. But it was in her hometown of Virginia Beach, Va. where she experienced her first live performance with the band. During a Sugarland show on April 26, Bush called her onstage to help sing ‘Baby Girl.’

Without skipping a beat, Springsteen accepted the invitation and climbed on stage to sing her heart out. Alana’s parents, David and Shannon Springsteen, watched from the audience as their adolescent daughter transformed from a little girl to a future country star.

“As soon as the first verse got done it was like, ‘I got this stage!’” her father, David, shared (quote via the Boot). “She was walking around, flipping her hair, and I was like, ‘What is going on?’”

Although the Virginia Beach performance was Alana’s debut experience with Sugarland, she has sung for some big crowds in the past. The young musician even once performed the National Anthem at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.

For now, Alana juggles school and her career aspirations with some help from a down-to-earth family who keeps her grounded. But it sounds like she has a promising future ahead. She recently wrote a song with Bush and his brother, Brandon, which could appear on her debut album.
