Activities are planned for MLK Day in Yakima and Toppenish beginning January 10th through January 17th, 2022.

Today's theme is "Power in the People...Freedom, Equality, and Prosperity". There can be none of these things if we don't start getting our STUFF together-as a community and as a nation.

With a steady drum cadence, an honor guard, a police escort and several Yakima Transit buses trailing behind, about 200 people joined a mile-and-a-half-long peace walk through Yakima to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.

The other night, my 5-year-old daughter, Willow, and I were sitting on the bed, lounging around because it was a Saturday evening. I asked her if she wanted me to read her a story and she asked me to pick out the books. I chose to read her a book I have never read to her (and never even read myself)...

I have walked in the MLK Peace Walk with my daughter for three years in a row. When my daughter was an infant, I decided that I wanted her to grow up with an appreciation for the walk and soup kitchen offered at the Southeast Community Center...

The Martin Luther King Jr Peace walk turned out a decent crowd given the freezing cold temperatures.  Around 200 gathered to walk from 5th and MLK Blvd to the Yakima Convention Center to remember the teachings of Dr. King. Here are a few pictures from today's event.
