Taylor Swift Preparing to Write Next Album

It will likely take a couple of years, but the writing process for Taylor Swift‘s follow-up to ‘Red’ will soon begin. The singer says she’s feeling the anxiety that usually signals the start of a creative wave that builds toward a new album.

“All the anxiety is starting,” she told USA Today and other reporters backstage at the CMA Music Festival on Thursday (June 6). “When the anxiety starts, the writing happens right after, usually.” Swift performed on the first night of the CMA Music Festival. She played her own set and with Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.

‘Red’ was Swift’s fourth album. It was released in October of 2012. Each of her albums has been released in the fall, and they’ve all been spaced two years apart. But songs she’s writing now are unlikely to end up on her next album, she reveals.

“Whatever I write in the first year is going to get thrown away,” Swift says. “I’m going to like it, but it’s going to sound like the last record. The second year usually sounds like the next project.”

The singer-songwriter says she feels she needs to find new inspiration and influences with each record cycle. If her fifth album follows the same cycle, she’d be 24 years old when it’s released in 2014.
