‘Text’ or ‘Texted?’ We Will Tell You What Is Correct

We were having a little debate in the studio about text messaging. We wanted to know if when you text a friend and you say "Hey my friend just texted me" or is it "my friend just text me?" I know it's kind of a ridiculous question, but we think we've figured out the answer.

Even though texted is not a real word it would still be correct to say "my friend texted me with the directions." Much like the word "called," you wouldn't say my friend "call" me. You would say my friend "called" me. Text and texted are very much the same.
