Thomas Rhett has numerous hit songs under his belt, but he has yet to win any major awards. His luck could soon change, however, as the singer is nominated in three categories at the upcoming 2016 ACM Awards: Album of the Year (for Tangled Up), New Male Vocalist of the Year and Single Record of the Year (for "Die a Happy Man").

"I didn’t even know that they were being announced, honestly," Rhett recalled to The Boot and other reporters at a recent media event. "I had just gotten back from the road, and I woke up one morning with about a hundred text messages saying, ‘Congrats on your three ACM nominations.’

"To be nominated for one ACM is incredible, but to be nominated for three …," he adds. "I’m really excited to be out in Vegas and watch that show and be a part of it."

Of all of his nominations, Rhett admits that he is most excited about Album of the Year, a category he shares with Eric Church, Sam HuntChris Stapleton and Chris Young.

"That’s been the coolest part," Rhett says. "When I got that nomination, I was a little bit in shock, because the last couple years, I feel like I’ve been nominated for, like, the new artist this nominee, or breakthrough this or new artist that, so it’s nice to be put in a category where it kind of feels like one of the big categories, if you will. And especially to be in that category with records that I am just blown away with and infatuated with."

His Album of the Year nod also gave Rhett a belief in himself and his own abilities as an artist.

"For the ACMs to honor me for that album, it’s one of those things where it’s like, maybe I should trust my gut one more time and see if it works again," he continues. "But I just believe in that album so much. As much as I was apprehensive and nervous about putting it out, it’s nice to take chances and have people listen to it and love it and nominate it for something like that is really, really, really humbling."

The 2016 ACM Awards are set to air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 3, beginning at 8PM ET on CBS.

Tangled Up is available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes.
