Back in April I returned from a trip to California to visit family. Normally I have a ride setup from YKM but this time I wasn't so fortunate as my flight arrived a couple of hours late and the ride I had couldn't make it. I didn't want to pay $20 for a taxi so I downloaded the Uber app on my iPhone and found out that Uber wasn't servicing the Yakima area at that time.

Over the weekend I went to Los Angeles to see the Seahawks take on the Rams at the Los Angeles Coliseum. To avoid the outrageous parking fees (up to $60 in some places) we parked about 6 miles from the stadium and used the Uber app to cover the final distance which cost us a total of $12.51.

So just for fun I just checked my app to see if we finally started getting the Uber service in Yakima and I was surprised and delighted to find out we are. I put in my destination and the radio station location just to see if I could get a fare estimate (which I did) and the app said that if I were to go ahead and request a car that they would be here in 6 minutes.

Back in June the Yakima Herald wrote a article where they found there was a single Uber driver in town but judging by how responsive they were on the app just a few minutes ago I have to imagine the number of drivers has grown considerably. Now I don't have to keep bugging my friends for rides to and from YKM.
