USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced it has completed its efforts to modernize import regulations for bovine spongiform encephalopathy – or BSE – on Friday. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association president says the basis of these import regulations is critical in showing the U.S. is committed to ensuring trade – unfettered by protectionist motivations – and sends a clear message to U.S. trading partners of the value it places on fair trade.

Back in September – a court denied a motion to delay the Country of Origin Labeling rule. Recently – Mexico requested the establishment of a compliance panel to determine if USDA’s final COOL rule complies with World Trade Organization findings – and the final rule faces court challenges from trade groups opposing its implementation. The U.S. Trade Representative has confirmed the changes in USDA’s final COOL rule will bring the current COOL requirements into compliance with the WTO ruling.

Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker James Moll unveiled an advance trailer and website for his latest film Farmland. The trailer – which is being made with the generous support of U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance – was shown at last week’s FFA conference. The documentary will premiere nationwide in spring 2014.
