The Marines are landing!

That is, they're launching their annual Toys for Tots campaign this Saturday (Nov. 5) at the Union Gap Toys R Us, 1401 E. Washington Ave.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of Bravo Company, the Marines of Recruiting Substation Yakima, will be set up to accept donations of new toys that they'll deliver to needy local children for Christmas.

Anyone who donates a toy can get photos taken in or on the vehicles and equipment the Marines will have at the event.

And they're bringing the heavy stuff! They'll park an M1A1 tank and a seven-ton transport vehicle in the parking lot, and they'll be displaying machine guns and other military equipment.

Saturday's kickoff to this year's Toys for Tots push will be followed up by Sunday's bike run, which starts at 11 a.m. in the Albertsons parking lot at 16th and Lincoln. Click here for more details.

Meantime, pick up a toy and spend some time with the Marines this Saturday.
