As a kid we had an old joke.

Person 1: "Wanna go to Wapato?"
Person 2: "Sure!"
Person 1: stomps on their foot

If you ever wanted to know why that town is named Wapato, here's what we know.

According to Only In My State, Wapato is Chinook for potato. Though spelled slightly different (wapatoo), it's the origin of what the town is now named.

Originally it was named Simcoe but they changed it to Wapato at the turn of the 1900s because it was confusing those from Fort Simcoe as they are two different places.

I like Wapato better, anyways.
