Today is the 38th Anniversary of the eruption of Mount St. Helens.

I remember being in the back of my dad's yellow Chevy pickup, on our way to a fishing trip when the mountain blew.

The skies got dark quick and we canceled the fishing trip because back then you didn't know what was going to happen.

I remember collecting ash from the fallout, but from my small town of Lewiston/Clarkston, we didn't get anywhere near as much ash as Yakima and the Tri-Cities got.

Kids today get to see the Hawaiian volcano, but Mount St. Helens was right here in our backyard and we experienced it firsthand in 1980.
