With the opening weekend of the NFL season upon us, it's time to acknowledge that there's a reason they call it the remote control. This time of year, couples across the country engage in couch negotiations to determine who gets to see what -- often it's football vs. well ... some other show that's a silly waste of time.

The good news about living in the Northwest is that most couples want to watch the same game, and this weekend that will be the Seahawks vs. Rams.

But most nights it's at least a discussion about which show to watch together. Thankfully, due to the advancements in technology it's easier to record and watch shows you like on your own time. And most couples at least share common interests, so there are some shows or brands that bring together opposite interests in one program.

Kristina and I have worked out a system on what to watch when we don't agree, and that involves me saying "Yes dear, of course I want to watch ABC's 'Bachelor in Paradise.'"

Here's a list of shows Kristina and I watch together:

1.) "Total Divas"

2.) "CSI"

3.) "House of Cards"

4.) "Big Brother"

5.) "The Bachelor"/"Bachelorette"

6.) NFL games on NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN
