Yakima Should Make The New Lady Antebellum Tune “Downtown” The Official Theme Song of Downtown
The City of Yakima is currently reviewing proposals to create a downtown master plan, which will continue to attract more business and keep the forward momentum going that we’ve seen in the past 7 years. If you think about it downtown Yakima has changed a lot since the beginning of the downtown futures initiative. First there’s the addition of new business, like the Gilbert Cellars tasting room. There’s been the transformation of Pete’s Night Club to Second Street Grill, and the addition of new hotels that include the Hilton Garden Inn and the New Holiday Inn.
The City of Yakima has set aside money to provide fun things to do in downtown all summer long. This will be the first summer for a trial run of hosting events on 4th behind the capital theatre in downtown. All in all the city is committed to downtown and it’s continued success. That’s why I think it would be a great idea to have an official theme song and Lady A’s “Downtown” has the perfect lyrics for the job.
Well, all the parties on the streets are talking, store front mannequins sleeping in lights.
We used to smoke while we were jaywalking like it was your birthday every other Saturday night.
Knew The bands so we never payed our cover.
Wrote our names on the bathroom tiles.
We never dressed to impress all the others,
They would let us in on a laid back kind of style.
But Boy you know it’s been a while.
I don’t know why you don’t take me down town like you got anywhere better to be.
Talk it up and give me the go round round like a good time tease.
I’m only counting on your cancellation,
Then I should be countin on you at my door.
Did you forget about how we went around,
I don’t know why you don’t take me downtown anymore.
It would be a fun way to encourage people to come downtown…I don’t know why you don’t take me downtown anymore?
