With nine homicides in Yakima this year, the community is taking matters into their own hands.

With the recent string of violent crimes in Yakima, it's becoming apparent that the community is feeling a little on edge. Yakima Police Department's Capt. Schnieder says, however, that the public shouldn't be concerned about their safety.

Some community members, though, think it's a good time to come together and stop the violence. So, they're doing just that by hosting a community event to 'Stop the Violence'

Event organizers hope to spread a 'positive message to Yakima's youth.'

The even will take place Saturday, April 30th in Miller Park from 1p-4p.

Coaster, a local hip-hop artist, will be performing, and he says of the event: "I hope the people come together and unite to show that this town can be something better than what it's shown as,."

There will also be games, music, food, and much more!
