Within the past few days, I have received pleas from two separate Little Leagues in the Yakima Valley asking to get the word out about registration for the upcoming season.

Both Kendall Stroud, who is the president of Yakima National Little League, and Kevin Taylor of East Valley Youth Baseball have expressed concerns over the overall decline in numbers of youngsters signing up to play what Cal Ripken called "The Great American Game."

As Stroud said to me, "We want to offer kids a chance to learn about the game of baseball and sportsmanship."

As a father of a 10-year-old son set to enter his eighth year of organized baseball, I couldn't agree more!

Get your child signed-up today and let's play ball!
