Yakima Police say a 11-year-old girl was injured in a drive-by shooting early Wednesday morning while she was asleep in her bed. Officers were called to the 1600 block of South 12th Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. where they found the girl with bullet wounds to her thigh and calf. She's being treated at Yakima's Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital.
When officers arrived at the home they saw a motorcycle leaving the area and attempted to stop the person but he fled the area. The officer then found the motorcycle abandoned in the 1600 block of Queen Avenue. But the owner of the motorcycle was found a short time later and arrested. He's facing 4 counts of first degree assault, eluding and drive-by shooting.
15 shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting. Police say the actual target was the girl's father who is a known gang member. He was not at home at the time of the shooting. Police say the person arrested is a self-admitted gang member. He's being held in the Yakima County jail.
