Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Rainbow’ Is 2019’s CMA Music Video of the Year

Kacey Musgraves has taken home the trophy for Music Video of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards! The winning clip, for the song "Rainbow," was directed by Hannah Lux Davis.

Maddie & Tae revealed Musgraves' CMA Awards victory on Wednesday morning (Nov. 13), during a Good Morning America broadcast live from Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon ahead of the 2019 CMA Awards. In this category, the CMA trophy goes to both the artist and the director of the winning video.

With her newest win, Musgraves adds the latest in a large collection of accolades associated with her 2018 studio album, Golden Hour. In fact, she released her winning music video back in February, hot on the heels of the Grammy Awards ceremony at which she won a swath of awards, including Best Country Album and Album of the Year.

Paired perfectly to the gentle, lullaby-esque aesthetic of the song, the music video for "Rainbow" intersperses shots of Musgraves singing with scenes of people who are struggling in an array of different, difficult situations. Primary colors and warm, glowing light dominate throughout the clip, which ends with the singer sitting in a room filled with lush greenery and flowers, a rainbow over her head. Both song and video convey a sentiment of finding peace, and trusting that even the toughest situations have a way of working themselves out.

Competition was tight in this category this year: Dierks Bentley's "Burning Man" (featuring Brothers Osborne), Blake Shelton's "God's Country," Maren Morris' "Girl" and Eric Church's "Some of It" were all up for the Music Video of the Year title as well.
