Anita Cochran has resumed performing live after a two-year break that she spent fighting breast cancer.

Cochran's recent live dates found her performing in Ohio and in her home state of Michigan, where she returned to her hometown of South Lyon to reunite with some old friends from high school. Cochran and nearly 100 old friends assembled at the Hotel, their old hangout, where South Lyon Mayor Daniel L. Pelchat presented the singer-songwriter with the Key to the City.

“The community is very proud to have such a strong role model from our small town," Pelchat states.

“I’m so proud to be from South Lyon,” Cochran shares. “It was a great place to grow up. To receive this gift of the Key to the City means so much. It’s an honor and I hope to always make my hometown proud of what I do. Seeing old friends was also food for my soul that I’ve needed for a while now. This town has always supported me and I am so grateful!”

Chase Bryant Shares His Brother's Cancer Journey

Cochran's cancer battle began in August of 2017 when she found a lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with Stage 2 cancer and started taking chemotherapy drugs that prevented her from touring, which was the source of her primary income. All-star friends including Steve Wariner, Crystal Gayle, Wade Hayes, Clay Walker, Ty Herndon, Jamie O’Neal, Lorrie Morgan, Terri Clark, Mandy Barnett, Bryan White, Pam Tillis, Suzy Bogguss, Wynonna Judd and the Lynns joined together for a benefit concert in Nashville that raised $12,000 toward her medical bills.

Cochran also raised money through a song and video titled "Fight Like a Girl" that depicted her as a boxer, literally fighting for her life.

The singer announced she had been cancer-free for four months in July of 2018 after undergoing a double mastectomy and having one of her lymph nodes removed, and she underwent her final chemotherapy treatment on Sept. 19.

In October, Cochran launched a new charity called the Love Anchors Fund, which raises money to fight cancer, among other causes it supports. During Cochran's recent performance at the Listening Room in Port Clinton, Ohio, the Magruder Hospital partnered with the venue, and 100 percent of the ticket sales went to benefit the Love Anchors Fund.

"Fight Like a Girl" is currently available for purchase, with the proceeds going to help fight breast cancer.
