Did You Know? Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Used to Live in Washington State
Washington State has no lack of celebrities who are from here. Musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Kurt Cobain, Macklemore, Duff McKagan, and many more in the Seattle area.
Famous actors like our own Kyle McLachlan from right here in Yakima.
Athletes as well like Scott Hatteberg who was born in Oregon but graduated from IKE in Yakima.
We've even had a few professional wrestlers like Bryan Danielson who hails from Aberdeen, Washington.
And then you have guys like Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson who has done a little of everything. Wrestling, acting, an entrepreneur who has released his own energy drink and tequila and even released a rap song.
And, as it turns out, he used to live in Washington State for a short time.
Dwayne Johnson comes from a line of pro wrestlers with his grandfather, Peter Maivia, and his father, Rocky Johnson, both being very successful pro wrestlers.
Before wrestling being what it is now, pro wrestling was set up in territories where each section of the United States had their own wrestlers and wrestling going on. In the Pacific Northwest, the hub was Portland, Oregon.
His father spent some time wrestling in Portland, Oregon. During that time they lived in Vancouver, Washington.
Dwayne Johnson has mentioned it a few times when reminiscing on the old Portland territory days of pro wrestling.
The Rock will be happy to know there's still plenty of great wrestling happening in Portland and the entire Pacific Northwest in cities like Seattle, Spokane, Richland, and more.
