
Power of the Purse Event Supports Yakima Domestic Violence Victims
Your chance to have fun and help those caught in domestic violence situations is coming up next month. Domestic violence is a problem Yakima Police Officers spend a good majority of their days dealing with and it's the reason why the department has a special Domestic Violence Coordinated Community Response Team.
A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH YAKIMA LEADING
How bad is the domestic violence problem in Yakima?
According to Cheri Kilty, the Executive Director of the YWCA women's shelter says Yakima and Spokane have the highest rates of domestic violence incidents in the state. In fact during an appearance on KIT Thursday Kilty says Yakima has the most domestic incidents in the state.

She says they help thousands of women and children every year.
You can help the YWCA help others in October during the annual fundraiser called "Power of the Purse: Fighting Financial Abuse one fabulous purse at a time." The idea is to have fun and create a night of shopping for special purses.
