Free Yakima Summer Bash With Barbecue, Games, Tours, and Resource Fair
The Salvation Army Yakima Valley Corps is inviting you to a big family fun event on Tuesday, July 15. It's a free family event to kick-off a capital campaign to raise $750,000 to open the new Salvation Army Yakima Valley Community Center and Hope Market food pantry on North 4th Street.
A NEW FACILITY TO HELP
The event is designed to get everyone familiar with the new building and excited about what's to come. Salvation Army Envoy Lisa Sargent says families can enjoy a summer barbecue, shaved ice, popcorn, cotton candy, tours of the new facility, photo booth, and a nonprofit resource fair.

RESOURCES TO CHANGE LIVES
It's set for 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at 509 N. 4th Street. Sargent says they're expanding services and outreach with the opening of the new 33,000 square foot center which will include adult, adaptive, senior, and youth programs, including gym activities, after-school care, meal programs, job training, and church services. A press release says the annex building will be renovated into The Salvation Army Hope Market and include Pathway of Hope "wraparound social services to help families exit the cycle of intergenerational poverty."
WORK WILL START THIS FALL
Construction is set to start in the fall with completion set for spring of 2026. If you help or attend the fun on Tuesday you'll be helping an organization that's been helping the Yakima Valley since 1894. That's when the Salvation Army Yakima Valley Corps was established making it the longest-running nonprofit in the Yakima Valley.
Last year the Salvation Army Yakima Valley Corps served 21,000 people (including 4,000 families), fulfilled 15,000 food pantry grocery orders, and distributed 21,300 toys and 1,400 food boxes during the holidays.
