Wildcat Fire Near Bumping Lake Gains Slight Containment
Finally some containment on the big Wildcat Fire burning near Bumping Lake. The fire is now 8% contained with little growth from Wednesday to Thursday. The fire is currently at 7,893 acres.
EVACUATION NOTICES REMAIN IN PLACE
A Level 2 "Be Ready" evacuation notice remains in place for Goose Prairie and Bumping River Road. State Route 410 remains open, but a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail #2000 from the intersection of Bumping Lake Trail #971 to Chinook Pass Trailhead at SR 410 remains closed. Bumping River Road is also closed at the junction with SR 410, but remains open to residents of Goose Prairie.

SLOW GROWTH AND LIGHTNING STRIKES
Crews say they've seen very little fire growth this week allowing Firefighters to remove 21 loads of debris along Bumping River Road that could have fueled the blaze. Lots of lightning over the area over the last couple of days is keeping fire managers busy searching for new fires.
PROTECTING CABINS FROM FIRE
A press release from the Naches Fire Department says firefighters are working along the SR 410 corridor assessing cabins in the Timber Creek area and removing vegetation. Crews south of the fire are improving a control line while thinning lower vegetation and other fuels while leaving mature trees. Night shift will continue to strengthen protection features and increasing containment.
CHINOOK PASS IS OPEN BUT BUSY
SR 410 remains open. However, due to ongoing fire activity, both the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and Mount Rainier National Park have closures in place, including a section of the Pacific Crest Trail #2000 from the intersection of Bumping Lake Trail #971 to the Chinook Pass Trailhead at SR 410. The Bumping River Road is closed at the junction with SR 410, though it remains open to residents of Goose Prairie.
