WANT MORE INFORMATION?
Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross says more than 133,000 ballots were sent to registered voters in the county earlier this month. Looking for candidate information? Ross says voters have already received a Yakima County Voters Guide with more than 100 pages of information. Depending on where you live it's a busy ballot with city council, school and fire district races along with the Yakima County Coroner's race. Ross expects a turnout between 25% and 35%. That means thousands of ballots will be ignored and thrown in the trash.
IT'S FREE TO RETURN
Your ballot is due on election day, August 5. You don't need a stamp to drop your ballot in the mail. You can also place your ballot in a drop box located in many areas throughout the county. You can also register at the Yakima County Auditor's Office inside the Yakima County Courthouse. If you go to the courthouse remember you'll have to go through security before entering the auditor's office.
RENEW YOUR LICENSE?
Ross says while the number of people registered to vote grows in the county every year the same amount of people vote. He says that's because many people are signed up to vote through the state licensing department. He says you must opt out when getting or renewing your drivers license or you'll be automatically registered as a voter in the state.
