A new and unusual marketing stunt by GameStop might be something truly magical. On November 18th, GameStop announced on Instagram that they will be hosting Trade Anything Day on December 7th, 2025. After speaking with the team at the Union Gap location, they confirmed they are participating in the event.

What Is GameStop's Trade Anything Day' Event?

How this event goes is simple: You can bring anything in to trade for an exchange for a $5 in-store only credit. I have no idea what they plan to do with all of the items they end up collecting!

Of course, there are rules and stipulations you should read.

The “Do Not Bring” list is long but mostly common sense—no live or dead animals or people. Weirdly, taxidermy animals are fine, so that stuffed duck you have is fair game. They also will not allow you to trade in liquids, chemicals, weapons, or anything edible (sorry, you can’t bring your mom’s meatloaf or G-ma’s fruitcake).

It really seems like GameStop is looking for a good time, but what’s the reason behind it?

Best Time to Arrive for 'Trade Anything Day'

Union Gap's GameStop employees told me they have no expectations for how the day will play out. Either way, it's arguably a fun stunt to get people in the door, and I suggest getting there early — they open at 11 a.m. the day of the event.

An Excuse for Some Fun and Mischief (on Your Co-Workers)?

With the excitement of this event, and in the spirit of fun and mischief, I thought: What could I steal from my coworkers’ desks to use for GameStop's Trade Anything Day? I found some great gems! See what I stole from them in the gallery below.

Things I Stole from My Coworkers to Trade in at GameStop in Union Gap

The next time a Trade in Anything Day pops up at your local GameStop, think outside the box and use stuff from your coworkers, like I did!

(Disclaimer: Please don’t actually steal anything, especially from your coworkers’ desks. Be respectful of their space. These items were “stolen” with advance notice given to my coworkers that something from their desk would mysteriously go missing over the weekend. No items were harmed, damaged, or sold in this fun gag.)

More Trade in Anything Day Ideas You Can Use

If you and your coworkers want to do something lighthearted for the holidays, try a white elephant gift exchange where: Maybe your gaming group—whether you're meeting in person for tabletop nights and LAN parties or connecting over multiplayer—can dig up that slabbed copy of X-Force #1 , that bent MTG Black lotus card with torn edges, or that Destiny case you’ve been using as a coaster, and trade them in for something cool to gift each other.

  • Need a quick $5 gift for a white elephant exchange?

  • Need to clear out that junk drawer at work?

  • Just bored and looking for something fun to do with your friends and fellow geek community?

Then GameStop's event is perfect for you.
