Is Yakima Next on Godzilla’s Path? New Comic from IDW Hints at It
The Pacific Northwest has clashed with the all too powerful and infamous Godzilla. From IDW Publishing comes a new comic book series set in an alternate reality where Godzilla and other kaiju like monsters exist, this time, with the story unfolding in our own backyard.
The comic is titled Godzilla: Escape the Dead Zone. For the most part, this comic takes place on the entire West Coast, an area that has become so overrun with giant monsters that the American government has given up trying to protect it.
We do see scavengers and others surviving in this newly created wasteland; it’s simply a lawless, government-less land filled with monstrous dangers.
A Mutant Hero Roaming the Pacific Northwest
The story follows a character who has been altered in some way, a man fused with kaiju, part human and part monster. He wanders the wasteland as a mutant, often taking on larger monsters for bounties. We don’t yet know much about his origin, as we wait for issue #2, which drops on September 17th.

Iconic Pacific Northwest Landmarks Brought to Life
The comic features striking imagery and fun nods to familiar landmarks, including signs from Seattle and even the layout of Pike Place Market.
Pablo Tunica’s art, especially when depicting the PNW, pulls you in and heightens the excitement. With this only being issue one, there’s plenty of room for more Pacific Northwest landmarks to appear, maybe even a march through Yakima.
Will Yakima meet Godzilla?
The Yakima Valley is best known for its hops, wine, and apples. Would we see Godzilla take a long nap between the hills at the gap? Maybe we would see Godzilla himself get a bit tipsy from eating all the hops in the Valley? One thing is for sure, with as many apples as we have here, he'll be keeping the doctor away for a long time!
Godzilla: Escape the Dead Zone is the second installment in IDW’s newly created Godzilla universe, KAI-SEI, a connected storyline designed to tie together their various Godzilla comics.
The PNW is never going to be the same after its run in with Godzilla. Check out at your local comic shops today.
