With multiple fires raging in the Yakima Valley and many brave emergency crews doing their best to contain the blaze, steps are being taken to help combat it and prevent its further spread.

A press release from the Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District describes the current situation and immediate actions that have been taken to help combat the blaze.

CURRENT SITUATIONS WITH THE RIMROCK RETREAT FIRE

The fire that started near Rimrock Retreat on July 23rd has been moving west down Tieton Canyon, alongside the 114-year-old main canal.

The Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District is implementing a system-by-system “rolling shutdown” in order to reduce the canal levels and hopefully minimize infrastructure and environmental risks.
