Yakima Man Tries Canadian Chips! Do They Owe Him An Apology?
This Timmy Tries article is a little bit different, mainly because the chips that I’m going to try are not new and are not regularly sold in America.
At least not anywhere I’ve seen.
Another reason this review will be different is there will be no 2nd Opinion. I asked 3 different people if they wanted to do a taste test with me, and each of them have a strong dislike of ketchup. I’m sure their inner 3-year-old is shaking their heads in shame.
My in-laws went to Canada and knew how much I like ketchup, so they surprised me with these chips. I’m very grateful for the gift, but does that gratitude carry over to our neighbors to the North?
No, no, it doesn’t.
Taste Test of Canadian Lay’s Ketchup Chips Legal Disclaimer
This is not a paid advertisement for or against this brand and type of chips or its country of origin.
As I stated above, my family traveled, found, and returned back to the States with this bag of chips. I asked if they had any problems coming across the border with them, and was told 'nope'. So if they are at fault, it wasn’t them; it was the border agent.
Taste Test of Canadian Lay’s Ketchup Chips
Let me start off by stating the fact that I love ketchup! I put it on my burgers, sandwiches, mac & cheese (which transforms into what I call ‘Hobo Spaghetti’), scrambled eggs, and HOT DOGS, and I have often questioned why it is not a salad dressing.
When I was younger, I would actually dip my plain ruffle chips in ketchup and enjoy them. When I was given these these, I thought, ‘neat, less work!’
I opened the bag, and got a good whiff of ketchup.
I grabbed one of the chips and was happy that it didn’t leave flavor powder on my fingers like BBQ chips can do. I popped the chip in my mouth…
For a potato chip, it was very sweet. I could taste the ketchup easily, but it didn’t take me back to when I was a little kid, dipping my chips like they were fries.
I ate a second one, and the sweetness overrode any type of salty chip taste that would come with it.
I was done… at least eating them as normal chips. I may top a hamburger with them, that might be good. But as far as just opening a bag and enjoying chips, these aren't the ones I would do that with.
