For almost two decades, homeless youth here in the Yakima community have had a safe place to go in search of stability, housing, education, employment, and outreach services. That's in great part due to Rod's House. Today, their Executive Director, Chon Marquez, announced his intent to step down from the role within the next few weeks.

Local nonprofits have cheered on the Rod's House organization, volunteering with restoring and decorating its building, donating clothing, food, and supplies, and offering support to its leadership team and board members.

Rod's House Isn't Slowing Down

After moving from Seattle to serve the Yakima Valley for the past three years, Asuncion (Chon) Marquez has been the helm of the fray. He's served as the Executive Director of Rod's House, leading the team and inspiring young people to set life goals and to find hope despite their setbacks. Marquez announced his departure is effective May 2026. No word on his next endeavors.

FanFest Northwest

If you were lucky enough to go to FanFest Northwest last year, did you know that it was a Rod's House event? I was so excited to go because it was the first Comic Con-style experience we've had in Yakima in years! FanFest Northwest returns August 8th and 9th this year and I'm so excited!
