I gotta be honest. I have never been a fan of running, unless something is chasing me. Or I hear the ice cream truck and I got a hankering. But I feel something is in the air. Earlier this week, I received a phone call from Michelle Blanchard, project manager of the new Downtown Yakima Mile.

What is this, you ask? Apparently, Hogback Development has decided to start planning events -- and their first one is pretty dang epic! The Downtown Yakima Mile! :)

It's coming up Saturday, June 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The inaugural Virginia Mason Memorial Downtown Yakima Mile is a road Mile race that opens a beautiful 14-block gradual downhill stretch of Yakima Avenue to runners of all ages and abilities who “want to run their fastest Mile… EVER!"

The Downtown Yakima Mile offers more than $25,000 in prizes for athletes, sure to attract top level competitors from all over the country. There will be 12 back-to-back heats for the family, youth, fire & police, elite athletes to tiny tots.
