Lundù Performance at the Capitol Theatre [REVIEW]

Friday nights in Yakima are a wondrous thing now that we are no longer paralyzed with fear about the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, we are hours away from the lift of the statewide mask mandate. Tonight, I celebrated the start of start of a fun-packed weekend by going to the Capitol Theatre to watch the performance of Lundù, an amazing musical band from Peru.

The crowd was excited and began screaming and clapping as the lights went down to start the concert. There was an abundance of musical instruments neatly displayed on the stage. I noticed a cello, acoustic guitars, Congo drums, a saxophone, flute, musical triangle, and a couple of ones I didn't recognize.

A young Peruvian lady who looked like she was in her mid 20s walked onto the stage and greeted the audience with a beautiful thick accent.

The band began to play lush melodies flavored with Afro-Peruvian, Creole, and Latin American flair. Some audience members got up to dance during some of the songs. In the beginning, it was just the ladies. The band poked fun at the men in the audience, telling them that men in Yakima are scaredy cats.

I agree. 😁

Lundù was on a 3-tour performance in the USA. Their first performance was at the Kennedy Center. Then they came to the Yakima for various local performances. They were treated to Miner's Burgers, beer at Bale Breaker, and a potluck at the private home of Charlie Robin, the Executive Director of the Capitol. Their final stop in America is a rousing performance at Lincoln Center in New York City!
