Motorcycle Rider Hospitalized in Seattle After Crash
A 28-year-old motorcycle rider remains hospitalized after being involved in a crash Friday at South 28th Avenue and Tieton Drive. Yakima Police say a motorcycle struck a vehicle at the intersection after police say the 18-year-old driver of the vehicle failed to yield the right of way when turning from Tieton Drive.
The 18-year-old driver did not have a license
A press release from the Yakima Police Department says "the rider was ejected from the motorcycle and collided with a third vehicle that was at the intersection waiting to turn."
The 29-year-old motorcycle rider was taken to nearby Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital but was then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition is unknown today but KIT News has learned he suffered a broken leg, numerous broken ribs, a broken collarbone and hand. Police say the 18-year-old driver was not injured and did not have a license. Authorities say driver inexperience is the "prominent causing factor in this collision."
If you drive a vehicle watch for motorcycles
Yakima Police say they've seen a number of crashes involving motorcycles over the summer and urge drivers to be aware of motorcycles in traffic. Many riders wear bright colored clothing and ride bright colored motorcycles to make sure vehicle drivers can see them.
The crash on Friday is under investigation by the Yakima Police Department Traffic Unit. If you have any information about the crash contact Officer Jim Yates at 509-575-6246.
