We gotta be honest: They had us at beer.

But that's only one part of this Friday and Saturday's (Aug. 7-8) annual Moxee Hop Festival, the biggest celebration in these parts of the crop that gives birth to all our favorite beers.

From Saturday's 10 a.m. parade that makes its way from Charron and Iler streets to Moxee City Park to the street dance that closes everything down, you don't want to miss a minute.

The festival officially starts at 5 p.m. Friday, when the food and craft vendors open up, and gets rolling with a full slate of bands, the presentation of the Moxee Hop Festival royalty, a dance and fireworks at dusk.

Friday night's main acts are the X-Band (starting at 6:30 in the beer garden) and The Hipsters (following at 8:30).

Get there early Saturday for the 7 a.m.-10 a.m. breakfast in the park, more bands on the hour, a 5K family fun run/walk and then the parade.

By noon, the music, eats and activities resume -- Saturday's headline bands are Crush (at 6:30 in the beer garden) and Ten Souljers (at 8:30).

In between all that, figure on hours of family fun and old-fashioned community camaraderie.

And just to wet your whistle, here's a little peek at some of last year's fun:
