It's November 4th and Thanksgiving is just three weeks away!  Yikes! So much planning to do, so much communication and coordination with family and friends.  Bake pies and cookies early and save in the freezer...get to work on hand-made invites, gather up the kids' school pictures, make that centerpiece, AND then round up a turkey -and get one big enough for leftover sandwiches- and don't forget all the side dishes...wait!  Why is EVERYTHING so expensive???

HIGHER PRICES GOBBLE UP TURKEY DAY BUDGETS

The New York Times says, "Thanksgiving 2021 could be the most expensive meal in the history of the holiday...Nearly every component of the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, from the disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan to the coffee and pie, will cost more this year, ...Trey Malone, an agricultural economist at Michigan State University. “The rich are going to be spending more on Thanksgiving than they have ever spent before, but not everyone is going to be able to do that.”  And THAT brings us to the point of this post.

HELPING THE HOMELESS

While higher prices may frustrate many of us at the grocery store, for hundreds of local men and women who are homeless, the rising cost of holiday dinners means little since they won't be able to enjoy such a meal without our help.

When you sit with the kids this Thanksgiving, and you review all the things for which we should be thankful, make sure that on your list is the ability to help those less fortunate...and here's how.

The Union Gospel Mission reminds us that we have the power to make sure each of our neighbors is fed and surrounded by friendly faces this Thanksgiving! Their goal is big- to provide hot, nourishing meals – 18,803 of them, including a Thanksgiving Dinner – by November 25.

$49.60 will buy 24 dinners and it's as easy a click right HERE to get started.
