It always cracks me up that in the midst of all the turmoil and problems our great nation faces, there is always something completely stupid that a politician does. I mean, how random is it that Republican Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Arizona's John McCain have introduced a bill that would do away with the penny?  Enzi says the plan -- which also converts dollar bills to dollar coins -- would save $150 million a year.

But I like pennies. We need pennies. When you buy something, generally it is, "such and such price," plus 99 cents. Sure they can round it up or down, but half of them don't.

When I was a kid, I saved so many pennies that when we went to Lagoon, an amusement park in Salt Lake City, I paid for the entire day with my pennies. Loved it.

It is also cool to me to see what year a penny was made. How far has this penny gone? Where has it been and who has held it? Kind of cool and creepy all at the same time.

I say keep the penny and stop wasting time, Senators.  Focus on something else.

How does Yakima feel? Should we do away with the penny?
