Union Gap Police are searching for a killer who shot an innocent man at the Valley Mall on Sunday.

POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A 26-YEAR-OLD TOPPENISH GANG MEMBER

An arrest warrant has been issued for 26-year-old Jonathan Edgar Navarro, a Toppenish gang member. He's charged with first-degree murder in the August 22nd shooting of 23-year-old Jose Rivera De La Cruz of Wapato. The warrant also charges Navarro with five counts of second-degree assault for shooting at two cars in the mall parking lot that had people inside them.

POLICE SAY THE VICTIM WAS NOT A PART OF A LOCAL GANG

Union Gap Police were called to the mall at about 4:30PM Sunday for a report of shots fired between two groups of people. When they arrived they found De La Cruz on the ground near the southwest entrance to the mall. He died at the scene even after police tried to save his life. Police say he was not a gang member but rather an innocent person shopping at the mall when he was killed.

POLICE SAY AN EARLIER CONFRONTATION LEAD TO THE FATAL SHOOTING

Authorities say Navarro fired shots after an earlier confrontation between two groups of gang members. They say De La Cruz had nothing to do with the earlier confrontation.  Police recovered 14 shell casings at the scene of the shooting.
Union Gap Police are searching for Navarro Today. He fled the area in a black 2011 BMW 328 sedan with Washington license plate BXX4680. Police are searching for Navarro and the vehicle.
