Four top ag ranking members have sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget calling for emergency assistance to be released to poultry and egg producers suffering flock losses from H5N2 avian influenza infections. The leaders recognize the recent support USDA and OMB have extended to the impacted areas which has affected nearly 100 farms in more than a dozen states. Farmers with infected flocks are already facing severe economic hardship – and the leaders say the indemnification process and cleanup of infected farms needs to occur immediately to avoid additional disruption in rural America.

Washington’s Rep. Dan Newhouse led 36 Members in a letter to U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and Director of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Dan Ashe urging the Administration to move forward with the implementation of its proposed rule, published on June 13, 2013, to delist the gray wolf nationally from the Endangered Species Act.
