Signal Work Will Slow Yakima Drivers Wednesday
Road and traffic signal work continues in the city during this hot summer. If you drive in the city, you've no doubt noticed all the work that's happening which could slow your commute. That work continues on Wednesday, July 20 with signal work that will impact the intersection of Yakima Avenue and 6th Street.
Get ready for the 4 way stop and traffic down to one lane in each direction
City crews get busy Wednesday with work on the signal. They're upgrading the signal heads at the intersection which means the light won't be working between the hours of 7:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday. Not only will the light not be working but traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction. Drivers will see stop signs at the 4-way-stop.
City crews are upgrading signals all around the city
Yakima city officials say the work on Wednesday is one in a series of 11 traffic signal upgrades the City is planning for intersections along Yakima Avenue over the next two months. The improvements include upgrading to larger, more efficient 12-inch LED signal heads. The new equipment gives drivers a better view of the signals despite angle or the reflection of the sun. The new signals are also much more efficient and last longer than the older lights.
Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the city of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
