Since 1985, the Yakima chapter of the American Cancer Society has put on a 24-hour "Relay For Life" to raise funds to fight the disease as well as honor the memory of those who have succumbed to it and celebrate survivors.

Relay For Life at West Valley High School was a huge success on Saturday (June 24). People came out in droves with the spirit of celebrating life and honoring those we have lost to the battle of cancer. It isn't easy losing someone to such a thing.

Relay for Life, spearheaded by the American Cancer Society, managed to raise some big dollars over the weekend even with weather being less than satisfactory. With hundreds cheering and applauding, Yakima's Relay for Life celebration got underway Saturday at Franklin Park with local cancer survivors taking the first lap.
