Things to Look Forward to in 2024
2024 is coming up soon. Here are just a few things happening in the year to come.
Leap Year
Every 4 years the month of February gets an extra day. In 2024 it falls on a Thursday so it's not like we get an extra day off or anything. I honestly think Leap Year should be considered a holiday and thus should be a day off. It doesn't work that way so it's unfortunate. But props to anyone celebrating a birthday on Leap Year. Not a bad way to celebrate when you can only celebrate on your birthday once every four years.
Presidential Election
Oh, the election process. All the TV time, all the candidates, all the mud slinging and trash talking, All of the campaigning which will all lead to all of the memes. They'll be looking for a new president in 2024. Joe Biden can run again and it looks like he may. He's already made records of being the oldest president in US history. We'll see how it goes.
Summer Olympics
The Summer Games are coming up in 2024. They change from location to location and this year should be a fun one, taking place in Paris. I watch when I can. I like the opening ceremony and some of the events. With the Olympic Games in Paris this year it should be extra special.
Solar Eclipse
On April 8th, we'll see a solar eclipse and according to NASA it'll be the last solar eclipse in the US for 20 years. The path goes through Mexico through part of the midwest and exits through Cleveland on through to Toronto and beyond.
We'll see what else 2024 will hold when we get there.

Stacker ranked the most expensive climate disasters by the billions since 1980 by the total cost of all damages, adjusted for inflation, based on 2021 data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The list starts with Hurricane Sally, which caused $7.3 billion in damages in 2020, and ends with a devastating 2005 hurricane that caused $170 billion in damage and killed at least 1,833 people. LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving
To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America
Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Stacker used data from the 2020 County Health Rankings to rank every state's average life expectancy from lowest to highest. The 2020 County Health Rankings values were calculated using mortality counts from the 2016-2018 National Center for Health Statistics. The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.

Using March 2019 data from the Social Security Administration, Stacker compiled a list of the most popular names in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., according to their 2018 SSA rankings. The top five boy names and top five girl names are listed for each state, as well as the number of babies born in 2018 with that name. Historically common names like Michael only made the top five in three states, while the less common name Harper ranks in the top five for 22 states.
