What Say You Joe?

Here is a message for all teachers from the husband of a teacher, President Joe Biden:

I will never forget the educators who encouraged me as a child.  Many of us remember our favorite teachers — the ones who instilled confidence in us, who encouraged us to dream boldly, and who helped us believe that we could achieve anything.  On National Teacher Appreciation Day and during National Teacher Appreciation Week, we pay tribute to educators who empower students across the country with the knowledge and skills they need to reach their potential and achieve their dreams.

I wonder who wrote that for him?  But I digress.

First Hand Family Experience

My only sister Sandy worked as a teacher. She taught third grade in the same school, in the same room for 30 years.  She even taught the kids of her former students. She made a difference in hundreds of lives.

About a dozen years ago, after a dozen years as a massage therapist, my wife Sara went back to school and became a teacher and later earned her Master's Degree so she could teach high school science.  Her students adore her.

Both of these caring committed ladies love their kids and the job of teaching.  Both hate all the bs, criticism, and unrealistic expectations placed on teachers...and they aren't alone.

NEA Stats Tell A Tale Of Frustration

According to a recent poll by The National Education Association, 55% of teachers say they plan on leaving the profession sooner than they originally planned.  They feel they are being pushed out or burnt out or both.

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and the homework helping platform, Brianly, is trying to focus positive attention back on our educators.

The Students Seem To Get It

66% of high school students think teachers should be paid more

74.8% stated a teacher has taught them a life lesson that they have been able to apply outside of the classroom

76% of students felt more appreciative of their teachers when they learned 93% of teachers purchase classroom supplies with their own money

But here is the problem -- When surveyed, teachers felt the most appreciated by their students, but least appreciated by their school/school system.

Despite All The Bad, Teachers Still Want To Deliver The Goods

The power of unions, the woke establishment, the critics without classroom experience, career-not kid-focused administration, the lack of involvement of parents, the importance of appearance over substance, and so much more have changed the teaching landscape and future plans of thousands of teachers.

Still, Studies Show Education is a Top Ten Chosen Field Of Study.

Education

Once again, Dr. Jill Biden's Husband Joe:

I hereby proclaim May 3, 2022, as National Teacher Appreciation Day and May 1 through May 7, 2022, as National Teacher Appreciation Week.  I call upon all Americans to recognize the hard work and dedication of our Nation’s teachers and to observe this day and this week by supporting teachers through appropriate activities, events, and programs.

To celebrate and give back appreciation to the teaching community, Brainly has launched its annual “Educator of The Year Award”, seeking students to submit an essay or video naming their favorite teacher and why they should be considered for Educator of the Year in categories such as STEM, English + History, Arts + Languages, and Mental and Physical Health.
