Tracy grew up in Arkansas, sang in the church choir, and learned how to play the guitar at a young age. His momma wanted him to become a preacher, but Tracy wanted to be a country singer and a star. After he moved to Nashville, he got discovered by an A&R rep for Atlantic Records while singing at the famous Bluebird Cafe.

His first big hit, Sticks and Stones, went straight to the top of American and Canadian country music charts in 1991. He's had several other hits you might remember, like Alibis, Can't Break It to My Heart, and If the Good Die Young.
