Viennetta is Back, but Hard to Find
In the '80s and '90s I'd see these commercials for what looked like the fanciest ice cream I've ever seen in my life. Viennetta.
Viennetta even just sounds fancy. It may have been Italian for 'dessert for sophisticates' or something but who knows, it just looked amazing.
I never had one. Never.
I remember seeing them at the store but because you were paying a premium for this as opposed to just buying a generic container box of whatever traditional flavor of whatever was on sale only to have the cardboard rip when you try to use your ice cream scoop, I'd much rather have this.
Fast-forward too many years later and they announce they're coming back.
...kinda.
These newer ones are much smaller and from a different brand all together. Originally from Breyers in the US, now from Good Humor who are mostly known for making some of your treats you're most likely to find in an ice cream truck.
And not only that, but they're not available everywhere. Many grocery stores don't carry it. Why? Who knows. Maybe they don't have the inventory or space to accommodate these, I'm not sure.
I found these at Grocery Outlet, of all places.
And as much as I love Grocery Outlet, it's one of those places where you may not find the same thing there twice in a row. It may be worth a check to see if your local grocery outlet has these in stock.
