As your paycheck stays the same, the cost of housing just keeps going up and up.

And here in Washington State, it's getting a little out of hand.

Houses that used to cost $300k not even 10 years ago are going for near a million dollars now.

Unsurprisingly, Washington ranks in the top 5 least affordable states for housing in the entire United States.

According to real estate experts at Raleigh Realty the average price of homes in the United States is $419,200.

That's average.

Right down the middle.

So if this is average, that means the average price of a home in Washington is even more than that.

In fact, the average price of a home in Washington State is $596,514.

It doesn't help that there are so many expensive homes in the Seattle area who, as usual, skew the results for us on the eastern side of the state, but those numbers are still pretty high here on the east side and right here in Yakima.

Be glad you don't live in Hawaii. Though as much fun as it sounds to live in a tropical paradise, the average price of a house is $840,256. Yep. I mean, if you think about it, there isn't a lot of land in all of Hawaii and, on top of that, not enough flat land areas to build any more houses.

To round out the top five, Hawaii is most expensive followed by California, New York, Massachusetts and Washington State coming in 5th place.

Does it want to make you move to West Virginia? They had the cheapest houses with the average house price coming in at $146,578.
