What’s Up with All the Little Bales of Hay on the Sides of the Road in Yakima?
Have you seen these, too?
You're just driving along and you spot this little bundle of hay nestled up next to the sidewalk on the side of the road. Maybe it fell out of a truck or something? Who knows.
Then you notice another one a block up the road. Then another. And, yet, another! Now you realize these didn't just fall out, they were placed here on purpose.
But what is that purpose?
Why are there bundles of hay on Nob Hill?
This might be connected with that chip sealing project they're doing on the side roads like 40th and 48th but the easy answer is to prevent larger debris from falling into the rain gutters, clogging them up. This is just a theory, though.
Perhaps these hay bales are in place to prevent rocks and gravel from falling into these gutters for people who are driving from these roads during this project that still may have stuff with them that could fall off of their tires.
There's no telling when these will be removed from those streets, not that they're bothering anything right now, especially during our summer months when we rarely get rain, but they're there for now and placed there on purpose.
