Yakima, of course, is no stranger to apples.

Apples have been one of the major cash crops for Washington State, especially the Yakima Valley, for basically ever.

It's one of the things I love to do when I travel is look for apples to find out they come from Yakima or nearby.

I love seeing new breeds of apples grown right here in the area. I remember when Honeycrisp were the new, hot thing.

When Cosmic Crisp came out people were excited to see if they really do turn brown far more slowly than traditional apples.

But these new apples will have you seeing red.

These are Kissabel apples where the red pigmentation seems into the flesh of the apple.

These apples are so popular they even have their own website.

What do Kissabel apples taste like?

I grabbed a few as I do love apples and I love them already. They're sweet, but not too sweet. They have a bit of a tanginess to them as well.

They're also very juicy.

Best way to describe the taste is somewhere between a Honeycrisp and a Granny Smith. I know those are two very different types of apples, but it has a sweetness and that crispness you can't ignore while still being a bit tangy.

I'm looking forward to making apple crumble with these this coming season.

If you're in Yakima, I found these specifically at Rosauer's but they may be at other local grocery stores as well.
