Google Maps is good for a lot of things.

You can find the quickest way to get somewhere, you can virtually visit a new town to see what restaurants or shops are near your hotel, if you travel, you can find places close to where you're going and see what there is to do around there.

Sometimes it's fun just to see what's on the other side of the hill in the area as something is always blocking your views.

I love Google Maps and use it often.

Google Maps takes new photos every so often, both from above as well as Street View and, with that, you can virtually go back in time to see what used to be in certain buildings.

Thanks to Google Maps, let's go back in time here in Yakima to see some restaurants that have since closed down that you may remember and hopefully haven't already forgotten about.

Again, Google Maps Street View only goes back as long as 2008 so it's not like I can look up Royal Fork or Pizza Haven or some of the great places we had back in the '80s.

Bert's Pub

Where's Bert's Pub was is now simply known as 'The Pub' which is a great place in Yakima. I miss Bert's menu that had the most wonderful cheese sauce that had a caraway seed or something in it making it amazing and unique.

Papa John's

I miss having a Papa John's in town. That garlic butter dipping sauce was a fun way to get us to eat our crust.

Pzza Time

Though in the '90s the original location was next to Gymnastics Plus, for a short time Pzza Time came back with their low cost, but delicious pizza in this building on Lincoln that has seen a few different businesses go in this spot.

Sharky's Pizza Shack

In fact, I'm not sure if they just left the pizza ovens in there but Sharky's Pizza Shack took over the former Pzza Time spot. Sharky's had fun pizza as well as traditional. People could enjoy a Mac & Cheese pizza, PB&J pizza and more.

You couldn't miss that bright blue building.

And, as a bonus, after Sharky's it was Mercedes and Family for a short time.

Cold Stone Creamery

What a fun idea for an ice cream place. You chose your flavor, you choose your mix and they'd blend it right in front of you. I loved the quality ingredients. My go-to for a while was 'sweet cream' flavored ice cream with gummy bears mixed in as the cold ice cream would make the gummy bears super hard. Not sure why I thought that was a great idea for my teeth but I sure loved it. I wish Yakima still had a Cold Stone.

Sea Galley

I miss Sea Galley already. It wasn't that long ago that we lost Sea Galley but we can still be reminded of its awesomeness and fun building via Google Maps.

IHOP

I'm almost surprised Yakima doesn't still have an IHOP at least in a new location. The valley was saddened to learn it went away. The closest one we have now is in Ellensburg with one in Kennewick also not too far away.

Pho-Tan

This place was a hidden gem. It didn't last too long on 72nd and Tieton where Captain Crab is now. It was my first pho experience.

Bamboo Terrace

My grandmother-in-law's favorite place. Friendly staff and great food. Can't ask for anymore more.

Ahoy Fish & Chips

It was nice to have an option for great fish and chips with a large variety considering how small this building was.
