Yakima is definitely a car town. It’s the home of numerous car club members and collectors. And many of them will be headed to Tacoma this weekend.

The Yakima Valley has had a love affair with the automobile since Val Gandy owned North Yakima’s first car in the early 20th century. We now host the annual Vintiques Northwest Nationals and many other car shows. It’s a good guess that a lot of Yakima’s car enthusiasts will be headed to Tacoma this weekend for the opening of The LeMay-America’s Car Museum.

Located near the Tacoma Dome, The LeMay will host a collection of largely American classics with a few rare foreign models. Here’s one of the rarest autos of all, a 1948 Tucker.

And possibly the rarest of them all, this 1994 George Barris Custom Flintmobile.

OK, it’s a movie prop, but it’s still very cool.

This video explains a lot about the museum, and it’s founder Harold LeMay.
