Anna Faris Not Returning For ‘Scary Movie 5′

Dimension Films

The fourth ‘Scary Movie’ hit theaters in April 2006, and topped out at $90.7M at the domestic box office. It didn’t set the world on fire, but it earned enough to warrant ‘Scary Movie 5,’ which tentatively is set to open on Jan. 11, 2013. Just don’t look for series staple Anna Faris, who plans to pass on the franchise that launched her comedic career.

While promoting ‘The Dictator’ during a press event in New York City, Faris tells Coming Soon that she’s opting out of the fifth ‘Scary’ film, saying:

“No, I don’t think I’m going to do it. … I don’t think I’m part of that. I don’t know exactly what’s happening with it, but I hear it’s sort of in the works and stuff.”

“Sort of in the works and stuff” doesn’t sound encouraging. At the same time, if Faris isn’t involved in the process, why would she know anything about the sequel’s progress?

Given the fact that the film’s supposed to be in theaters in January, it has to begin filming soon. IMDB says that ‘Undercover Brother’ and ‘Roll Bounce’ director Malcolm D. Lee will helm the comedy, from a script by Steve Leff and John Aboud. But he site also has Faris down as rumored, which we now know isn’t happening. We’ll see what happens on ‘Scary Movie 5’ as it evolves, but Faris appears to be walking away.

Do you think it’s good when an actress knows how and when to walk away? Or should Faris have left long before ‘Scary Movie’ reached part five?
