When I was growing up, my parents never really did too many things that were easy on the dollars. My brother and I always had the best of everything. I guess I was kind of a brat. But the older I have gotten, I look back on some of those things. My father never "took things in" to get fixed by someone else. He could fix anything, so he did it himself. That is one thing he did to save money. I guess that is why my brother and I always had nice things.
The inauguration of our new commander in chief is today (Jan. 20). Donald Trump will be sworn in this morning as our 45th president of the United States of America. Since I have been alive, this will be the first time I have heard of an anti-inaugural party. That just blows my mind.
One of my biggest pet peeves with drivers in Yakima Valley -- and everywhere, for that matter -- is the way they don't pull over for emergency vehicles. Sometimes I see people that don't even move over, let alone pull clear over to the right.
The Super Bowl is on the way, even though the Seahawks (and my Eagles) are out. Even my third favorite team -- the Vikings -- is out. Now what? I love football, so I am going to watch. But who do I root for?
With a steady drum cadence, an honor guard, a police escort and several Yakima Transit buses trailing behind, about 200 people joined a mile-and-a-half-long peace walk through Yakima to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
It is now 2017! A new year to get things started off right. I suppose I did. I got a lot done at my house that I normally do not have the time to do. Went to the radio station and did a few things and was on the air for awhile. When I got done, I went to Smitty's Log Cabin Café to get gas.
The New Year is off! I am glad to put 2016 in the wind, so to speak. And I am glad that the government decided to declare Jan. 2 as the official holiday this year, considering New Year's Day was on a Sunday. I love that we get an extra day off!
Caffeine! Seriously? A California driver was pulled over just outside Sacramento, near Fairfield, for driving erratically, reports say! Apparently, the female officer who pulled him over saw the man weaving in and out of the lines but, she didn't find drugs or alcohol.
